Straight-up -- my reviews don't include a retelling of the author's story. Nope, 'cause Devney Perry did a fantastic job all on her own. I won't dip into spoiler territory either. What you'll find below are my own opinions -- both likes and dislikes about the story (no dislikes to be found in this one, only love), the characters and how this book made me feel as I read. Right off the bat I'll take care of those "feels." REAL GOOD! That's how I felt from start to finish.The long, hot summer is ahead bringing with it the sizzle of romance. And you can certainly feel the love in Larks Cove, a small town in Montana, where fate is about to shake things up for Thea Landry and Logan Kendrick.In a no-fault baby surprise that comes 6 years after the bundle of joy arrives plotline, the story goes a little like this: Two strangers meet in a bar. Thea's the bartender and Logan, her customer. He stayed way past last call, and together they shared a mutual one-night stand that included three condoms, a lot of passion -- and one hot shower without a condom. Oops! Thea and Logan hurriedly parted ways the next morning without ever exchanging last names or any other personal info. And nine months later mommy has a baby girl to raise and no idea where to find the baby daddy. Six years later, Fate steps in, and . . . oh, what a charming and engaging story follows!Thea and Logan were ideal characters. Readers will find two very strong and determined characters. There was no blame thrown from either side. When you play, you pay. Responsibility accepted. Communication was a welcomed addition to this story – so often there is none. The major conflict facing them is distance between New York City and the picturesque small town of Larks Cove. It was refreshing to find a surprise baby trope where there weren’t lots of hateful remarks, nasty ultimatums, or threatened court dates. Perry chose to go for the gold – and she succeeded.Logan has led a rich and charmed life – and hers was anything but. Both are equally good people, taking their responsibilities seriously. It’s so refreshing to feel so much goodness towards both main characters. I was ecstatic with how this story moved forward without too much looking back with regret. Life happens, and you take the bitter with the sweet. Such a gratifying experience to watch as this couple took the bull by the horns and journeyed forward sharing the ups and downs that all relationships face at one time or another.A twofer love story is always an added treat -- one romantic between two deserving participants and another between a little girl and her parents. Now five – soon to be six-years old, Charlie sparkled in her role. She felt so real and normal for a child facing major changes in her young life. Using her extraordinary bag of writing magic, Perry ensures that readers feel the proud new papa’s deep commitment to his tomboy daughter that he dubbed “Peanut” from the start. Realizing that children are smart and very intuitive, you can’t fake your way through parenthood. Watching as Logan gets real and devotes himself to be the best dad possible brought joy to my heart. Once again, this author receives big kudos for bringing Charlie and Logan’s amazing kinship to life on the pages. I love a good sizzler – and the one shared by Logan and Thea was fantastic. But this time around, the sweet and heartwarming relationship between child and parent stole the show along with my heart!It’s a rarity to find myself head-over-heels crazy for so many cast members in one book. But when you meet marvelous characters that are as bold as they are vulnerable, sharing friendships and family ties, banter rife with wit and humor and strong devotion and love for one another, I had no other choice but to eagerly join them. You can never have enough friends -- and sometimes I find my book buddies are the best!A little touch of mystery and suspense – very light – adds a bit of edginess as well, with Logan stepping forward in the role of hero. Ahh, that guy makes my heart go pitty-pat. The story could have stood solidly without the inclusion, but I found it to be a welcomed addition and never overshadowed the main event.Through the eyes of two exceptionally well-written characters, Perry shows us that, no matter the odds, love can prevail. An extra special Epilogue, plus a Bonus Epilogue, more than proves this family reaches the ultimate happily-ever-after. This amazing book is at the top of my list of favorites for 2018!Second installment in this series will be TIMID, with Jackson and Willa that releases September 4, 2018. I can hardly wait. As always when reading Ms. Perry’s books, I feel like I’m on an emotional roller coaster, and what a ride!Thea Landry had a very difficult childhood. She was found tossed into a trash can, addicted to drugs hours after her birth. If not for the love and generosity of one woman, who knows where she would be now. Hazel Rhodes is that woman and is still very important in her life. Six years ago, living and working in New York as a bartender in a hotel bar,she met a man named Logan, and had the most amazing night of her life. No last name, no info which Thea regrets to this day. Now six years later she has an amazing beautiful tomboy daughter named Charlie, lives in Lark Cove, Montana with Hazel, known as Gran to Charlie. She runs and is bartender for Hazel’s bar, enjoys small town life and the ability to dabble in her favorite hobby as an artist.Logan Kendrick, managing partner of his law firm in New York, chairman of the board for the Kendrick Foundation is in Montana to check out a youth camp as an addition to the Foundations roster. It was a wonderful site and would benefit greatly from the input of money from the foundation. Celebrating after the purchase he and his CEO head to a local bar for drinks and dinner. There he is shocked to see Thea, who he actually did try to find after their night together. Not only does he find Thea, but an adorable six year old girl with his eyes and crooked pinkie finger he knows is his child, Charlie. He falls in love immediately. But far bigger obstacles are in store for Thea and Logan. She refuses to leave Montana, he has to be in New York. He spends a week getting to know Thea and Charlie and realizes he never stopped caring for Thea, and wants to be a part of Charlie’s life. But demands on his time, his family’s disapproval and not wanting a long distance relationship may ruin their chances of happily ever after.It took me a little while to warm up to Logan, but Charlie captured my heart from the beginning. Thank you to the publisher and Ms. Perry for the opportunity to read and review this very entertaining story.I also purchased a copy for my own library.
